All athletes MUST first report their injury to their coach. Coaches will then direct the athlete to the athletic trainer for evaluation and injury management.
Doctor Visits and Return to Play:
Please note that athletes who are injured should not return to sports until they are cleared to do so by their physician or one of Vernon’s certified athletic trainers. Those who see a physician must have written physician clearance to return to sports. The athletic training department uses the Physician Evaluation Formthis purpose, which allows the doctor to indicate any treatment or rehabilitation that can be provided at school, and also to indicate return to play status. Please have the physician complete this form and then have the athlete return the form to the athletic training office. Minor injuries that have been evaluated by the athletic training staff that do not require a physician evaluation need only to be cleared by one of the athletic trainers to return to play. Please note regarding concussions, we follow return to play guidelines as determined by our School Policy and state law, based on the latest published guidelines. If your doctor indicates “no concussion” or a return to play procedure that differs from our school policy,it must be approved by our school physician.
Athletic taping will be dictated by either a physician’s note or determined by Vernon’s certified athletic trainers.
Treatment & Rehabilitation:
All athletes in need of treatment or rehabilitation in the Athletic Training Clinic will need to sign-in before receiving treatment. Order of treatment for each athletes will be dictated by; 1. Athletes traveling to an away contest, 2. Athletes participating in practice, 3. Athletes participating in home contests, 4. Athletes not participating in contests/practices.
All athletes are encouraged to bring their own water bottle to practice/contests daily. Cups will not be available for use during practices. Water bottles are to be labeled with the athlete’s name. These bottles are to be cleaned at home after each daily use. Athletes will be given scheduled water breaks during practices as determined by the coach. Athletes will, however, have unlimited access to water at any time during practices.
All athletes and marching band members will complete a baseline ImPACTTest. This will be required every other year while participating
Emergency Action Plans have been devised and will be followed in the event of an emergency. Emergency procedures are also dictated by school policy.
